You will first however need to ask yourself if you are the kind of person who like to meet and work with new people. This will be a daily part of your life. You will encounter persons from all walks of life who are looking for you to help them with their travel arrangement needs.

First lets establish that to do this you will need to be a people person. This is after all the basis of your career as a travel agent. You will be meeting and working closely with clients from all different backgrounds and you will be working with them in some cases for extended period of time. You may find yourself working with some clients annually and others, many times a year. All of these people are counting on your to listen to them make the recommendations that they need and then the arrangements that they want. This can be a great job for someone who loves people and a miserable one for someone who is a recluse.

You will need to also be a person with an attention to detail. The clients that you will be working with are depending on your to not only make the recommendations that they need but also to make the arrangements that they are looking for. You will need to work closely with the vendors such as hotels and cruise lines to make sure that everything for your clients is perfect.

Probably the best aspect of being a travel agent is the fact that you will get to travel at the expense of your employer or the vendors that you work with. The purpose of this travel is to learn about the hotels, cruise lines, airlines, resorts, cities, countries, states and other providers that you will be recommending to your clients when working with them for their arrangements.

You will make a good deal of money as a travel agent. Firms generally pay between 10-15% commission on the arrangements that you make for your clients. This is in addition to the weekly salary, bonuses and profit shares (after you have been with a firm for some time) that you can make. You will also have the chance to travel at the expense of your employer and take advantage of major discounts when you are traveling for your own needs. All of this adds up to a great deal of value to your job as a travel agent.
